The Swinging Strings return for their fourth annual Austin Traditional Jazz Concert on Sunday, December 11 at Cap City Comedy Club. The Strings have an unusual instrumentation, but are a traditional jazz band and a nice change-of-pace from the usual three or four horn front line. They feature a mix of hotter-than-hot string players (Erik Hokkanen, J.D. Pendley, Dave Biller and Ryan Gould), Austin's best traditional jazz reedman in Jon Doyle, and the Pride of San Diego, Hal Smith on drums. The Strings play a mix of tunes made famous by the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, Western Swing, Gypsy Jazz and some traditional jazz favorites. Their first three ATJS concerts were sensational, and you can expect more of the same this time.
