to Perform for
Austin Traditional Jazz Society

The Second Line Jazz Band, a 7-piece traditional jazz band featuring a lineup of veteran local musicians, will play a concert for the Austin Traditional Jazz Society on Sunday, October 30. The Second Line is led by trombonist Scott Bailey. At one time the band was made up largely of San Antonio musicians, but now that Scott lives in Georgetown the makeup of the group has more of an Austin look. The band has been playing a monthly gig in Round Rock to large crowds.
Scott Bailey will be joined by cornetist Larmon Maddox, a distinguished lead player and soloist with many local ensembles. Jim Ivy, who has also been doing a terrific job hosting monthly jazz jam sessions in Round Rock, will join on clarinet. Walter Tibbitts, a relative newcomer to the Austin area, will play piano. In addition to Second Line and the Round Rock jam session events, Walter also appeared in the demonstration set played by the Round Rock Dixieland Project in June.
Dan Augustine, a mainstay of the New Orleans Jazz Band of Austin in recent years, will play tuba. Dan got his start as a symphony orchestra player in Nevada, but has adapted nicely to traditional jazz. Bobby Black, a Jim Cullum alumnus, has been a standout on banjo and guitar in San Antonio and Austin for many years. Bobby appeared with the Austin Traditional Jazz Society All-Stars in 2009. The rhythm section is rounded out by drummer Budge Mabry, a perennial ATJS All-Star and a featured performer with many area jazz ensembles.
In keeping with the proximity to Halloween, it is suggested that concert attendees dress up in jazzy costumes to add to the festive atmosphere.
