New Season Opening Concert!
Thrift Set Orchestra
at Capital City,
Sept. 15, 2013
The Thrift Set Orchestra will open the Austin Traditional Jazz Society's 2013-14 on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Cap City Comedy Club. The concert will begin at 1:10 pm with a demonstration set. Thrift Set will play from 2 to 5 pm.
Thrift Set Orchestra was formed earlier in 2013 by Chicago transplant Jon Doyle. Doyle has been known for some years as one of Austin's hottest jazz reed players, and Thrift Set has already established itself as one of the city's premier jazz ensembles. It is patterned after the small big bands of the Twenties and Thirties, and features original arrangements by several of its members. The orchestra will consist of Jon Doyle and Lyon Graulty (saxophone and clarinet), David Jellema (cornet and clarinet), Mark Gonzales (trombone), Albanie Falletta (guitar), Westen Borghesi (banjo) and Ryan Gould (string bass).
